Baby Blankets

I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday and she told me a great idea of hers. She saves the baby blankets that were used when her children were newborns and has them framed. I thought that this was such a beautiful idea because really what makes you think of your newborn child more than baby blankets? Some mothers will hold onto the first pair of baby shoes that they bought for their toddlers but I thought that those personalized baby blankets were a fantastic idea. Just looking at them would bring back all of the memories of the first days of their lives. All of the late night feedings, the day that they were brought home from the hospital, the good times, and the bad. The newborn years are such a precious time especially if it is your first child.

Putting a simple personalized crochet baby blanket in a frame and hanging it on the wall can be such a beautiful way of remembering these times. I went over to my friend’s house and she showed me the framed baby blankets and they look amazing. The frame is one of the larger ones and the blankets are folded and pressed so that they aren’t lumpy looking. These organic baby blankets are folded tightly so that they generally look as though they are very thin so that they can fit inside the frame. She has them hung up in her home office. She says that they bring her inspiration when she is writing. She actually writes for a living about parenting so I guess the framed blankets can really help her in remembering her days of parenting. Whenever she has writer’s block or is trying to come up with an idea she just looks at a baby blanket and lets the memories come. It must work because she has actually won a couple of awards for her writing.

I went home afterwards and went up to the attic to find my son’s blankets. I just sat there for about twenty minutes smelling them and thinking about when he was a newborn. I am going to go to buy a frame tomorrow and place the blankets inside it. I was thinking about hanging them in the spare room that we have, who knows, maybe it will bring us some luck so that we can have another baby again. It surely couldn’t hurt now could it?

Baby blankets can bring back a lot of memories of your children and having them close by can bring you comfort. Framing your baby blankets can be a wonderful idea if you want to remember all of the good times while your kids were newborns.
